I needed a bag to haul around my turn-out gear during a 13-week Firefighter rookie school, and chose this bag over others based on the description of it being a "step-in" bag. (I had looked at other bags which had the boots/bunker-pants compartment that only opened from the top or the side, but this one opens from the top, down to the side, making for a much larger opening that one can literally step into and out of with relative ease.) Now that I've had plently of time to field test this feature and having witnessed other firefighters using different bags, I can say that I am definitely glad that I chose this one. I can stow away my gear much more quickly, since I'm not having to struggle to squeeze the boots/pants through a smaller opening. The two end compartments, though being a bit more tighter fitting due to their smaller openings, are sized well to hold either a full-sized helmet (the old-school height and full-exterior-visor type) and turn-out coat.
