This tool box has a surprisingly well thought out design. (EDIT: This actually isn't all that surprising. I subsequently found out that this tool box is a rip off of the Beta C20 tool box. If authenticity matters to you, you should look at the C20 at four times the cost. The C20 is also available at Amazon.) You push down on the handle to open up the "butterfly", and pull up on the handle to close the "butterfly." This is a natural motion as you generally set the tool box down when you begin working, and then pick it back up when you're done. This would be less convenient if you were working on a ladder with the tool box above you on a ledge. (This is somewhat less likely, but not entirely impossible.)

You can open up either side independently by tilting the handle in that direction. This actually works out to be a bit of a negative as the butterfly doesn't open smoothly unless you manage to push the handle exactly straight down. If you're off to one side by even...Read more

The toolbox is pretty much what you see is way you get. All of the hinges and handle are riveted so I'm not sure how they would hold up to heavy use but should be fine for my use of storing smaller electrical tools. The gauge of the sheet metal seems more than up to the task of a toolbox of this size. The one thing that was a bit of a surprise was that the sheet metal edges were on the sharp side. All of the shelves have a lip that turns inward at their top and though not razor sharp they are still a bit of a potential hazard. I ended up taking tape and putting it over the top drawer edges just to be on the safe side. Otherwise it's a nice little tool box that's a great size and configuration for smaller tools. Each of the top 4 compartments is approx. 3 1/4"x14 1/2"x1 1/2" (18 x 47 x 4 cm) and the main bottom compartment is 6 1/4" x 14 1/2"x 2 3/4" (16 x 47 x 7.5 cm).

I've long been looking for a cantilever tool box - it is a great design for keeping basic tools both organized and easily available. I was happy to find that Amazon carries quite a good range of sizes and prices. I usually regret taking the cheaper option, but the finish and build quality are both very good and, at under $30, really impressive. I was so happy with the first, I bought a second.
