I didn't think a regular running belt made for carrying water bottles would work, either. I had been using a men's leather belt, but it cut into my back when my dog would lunge or jump over fallen trees. He snapped a worn leather belt last winter because he was excited to see the snow. So I started looking at padded tool belts instead...and this one is the best! I was able to take the outer nylon belt out of one loop so I could snug the velcro part around my 26-inch waist so the belt wouldn't bounce. Then I added a small camera case to carry my keys, ID, and poop bag. I stick the whole belt, pad and all, through the loop-handle of his leash so there is no leash clip that might break. When my dog makes a sudden movement, I barely feel the impact, thanks to the padding! I just used it on vacation to run through rocky forest trails, and didn't feel the heat from it until we stopped.
